SAN ANGELO, Texas — Citizens, dignitaries, Boy Scout troops, car aficionados, firefighters, law enforcement officers and others gathered Saturday morning for a remembrance ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks on 9/11.

The American Legion Post 572 hosted a car show Saturday at Mitchell Buck-GMC on Sherwood Way and took a pause in the event to honor the memories of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

In front of dozens of vehicles lined up for the show, the American Legion was joined by San Angelo Mayor Brenda Gunter, San Angelo Police Department assistant chiefs David Howard and Tracy Fincher, Tom Green County Sheriff Nick Hanna, Tom Green County Commissioner Pct. 3 Rick Bacon, San Angelo City Council members SMD 3 Harry Thomas and SMD 6 Larry Miller. Members of the San Angelo Fire Department were on hand to participate in the ceremony as well.

After Gunter read the City Council's proclamation naming Sept. 11, 2021, as Patriot Day, the American Legion presented her and the City with a Blue Star flag to be flown in honor of the day.
